Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Public Health Academic Network was officially established in Kunming in 2012. The network was based on the foundation set by the Khon Kaen University and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy few years earlier. The vision of the GMS Public Health Academic Network is to achieve the highest possible level of health among the people and promote health equity in the GMS countries. The Network has the mission to enhance regional capacity to address major public health challenges through the delivery of education, research, and policy advocacy for the improvement of population health and for health equity in the region.
With the above vision and mission, the Network is committed to implementing the following objectives: 1) enhancing the quality and relevance of educational and training programs in public health in the GMS through the reform of public health education to match the needs and the challenges of the health systems; 2) strengthening the collaboration and partnership of the public health institutions in the GMS through the development and implementation of quality teaching, research, and policy advocacy and 3) fostering collaborative actions among existing networks, policymakers, and researchers with interest in health policy and health research.

The Network had agreed on many areas for the collaboration and one of the activities is the organizing of the International conference to provide opportunity for younger generation of researchers to share their work and to learn from each other. Consequently, the Network has annually organized an International conference on Public Health, known as: International conference on Public health among Greater Mekong Sub-region Countries (GMS-ICPH) annually for 9 times and the 10th round will be conducted in Kunming, by the School of Public Health of the Kunming Medical University.
In 2018, the 10th GMS-ICPH is themed “Health Equity and Response of Crisis”. Under this theme, it is likely that the conference could bring together health personnel, academic and researchers from different countries, especially among the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) to share their expertise, experiences and research findings on a common platform that can strengthen public health actions, academic and research collaboration within and beyond the region. In addition, the conference may also provide opportunities for more scientific exchange on knowledge and research on Health Equity and Response of Crisis in the region.
Conference Objectives:
To provide a significant opportunity for all partners who work on the health related fields to share and discuss on their ideas, experience, and lessons on health improvement and development within the region.
To enhance the capacity and sustainability of public health collaboration among Greater Mekong Sub-region Countries.
To strengthen the cooperation of education, research and policy advocacy among Sub-regional countries.
To provide a platform for young faculties and students sharing their academic works among an encouraging environment.
